Stolen Dreams
(22 mins, Al Jazeera English, 2007)

Maysaloun Faraj has dedicated her life to promoting contemporary Iraqi art. At her London gallery, she's preparing for the opening night of a small exhibition featuring the work of two Iraqi artists, Hana Mal Allah and Rashad Selim. With only a few days to go, Maysaloun is under pressure to get things done.
Hana's works, all finished for the exhibition, bear the marks of destruction and war. But Rashad is far from ready for the opening. Will he even produce enough? At work in his studio, he likens the chaos of his unpreparedness with the chaos of the war in Iraq, his contemporary artwork mirroring the situation in Iraq.
The evening itself is a celebration of Iraqi contemporary art, a success for the gallery but bittersweet for Hana in her exile. This poignant yet surprisingly funny explores art, memory and the longing for a homeland lost to war.
